This grant was built to support students majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering or a critical foreign language; or non-major single liberal arts

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (National SMART Grant) was established by the The Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005.
For the first time the grant was available during the 2006-2007 academic year with the purpose to meet the growing need for improved math and science instruction. National SMART Grant is available as the supplement for the Federal Pell Grant. |

You apply for this grant by submitting your FAFSA Application. Given this is a federal grant that does not have to be repaid
the funds will be available on first come first serve basis.
The maximum one can be awarded is - year three: $4,000
The maximum one can be awarded is - year four: $4,000
The amount of the National SMART Grant, when combined with a Federal Pell Grant, may not exceed the student's cost of attendance.
National SMART Grant program is awarded for those who received Federal Pell Grant only. This grant is available to students for
their third and fourth academic year of college. Academic Competitiveness Grants are like sister grants available to students
for their first and second academic year of college.
Must Be a Federal Pell Grant Recipient
Be a U.S. Citizen Or Eligible Non-Citizen
Must Be Enrolled At Least Half-Time In a Degree Program
Must Be Pursuing a Major In Physical, Life, Computer Sciences, Math, Technology, Engineering Or, Foreign Language
Must Have At Least a 3.0 GPA On a 4.0 Scale
Not all students receiving Federal Pell Grant are eligible for this grant.

Eligibility begins July 1, 2006 and is applied to the 2006-2007 school year for first-year undergraduate students who graduated from high school after 1/1/06 and second-year undergraduate students who
