In case your new school is more expensive than the previous one, you may want to try the following types of Financial Aid offered: Student Loans,
Scholarships, Grants, Federal Work-Study Programs,
Fellowships, and Traineeships.
If your new school is out of state make sure to follow up with the state and learn out of state rules. One way of doing this is to contact
Financial Aid Agencies in the target state. Use our Agencies Search
tools to find the correct agency in that state.
Very often students entering college out of the state they reside in have to pay higher tuition fees. This does not have to be the case. There are at least two ways to fix the problem.
Sometimes neighboring states team up and lower tuition for students from the same team (grouping state). It is worth wile to check with your neighboring state if such a program is available.
The other solution is to contact Financial Aid Agencies in the target state and ask for residency rules.
Chances are the rules are not super strict and it's easy to become a resident.
One way of doing so is to buy a super cheap house in that state months before applying for federal or state aid.
This is valid especially if the house is cheaper than the extra cost of tuition for out of state students. These days it's not hard to find a house or rent below the extra cost.
Visit our Out of State Students center for more information on this subject.
Your new school holds all the information you require. They will explain you all Financial Aid rules and application process.
The new school is also well informed about state residency rules. They may even go as far as help you transfer the financial aid all together.
