Checking accounts and credit cards will help you build your credit history and that is going to help you obtain loans in the future. Credit history is not required for Federal Student Loans, but is required for other loans.

Third tip that is rarely talked about is driver's license. Make sure to get yours as soon as you can. Driver's license is an ID used on most applications and having it makes life easier.
